First Day, Dietmar Dahmen

First day going to class. Oh what's this GUEST SPEAKER?!

So I quickly sat down and was pretty much blown away.

He wore pretty much all black and spoke in a super fast German accent, I loved it. Packed with information and excitement, Mr. Dahmen spoke about the ever changing world of tomorrow and being in the "now". I thought his examples and descriptions of how we are just glued to the convenience of technology were extremely humorous. It was really relatable! I'm constantly stuck on my phone. It's officially become a vital organ at this point. The minute I don't have my phone in my hand or in my pocket, I stress out and flip the house upside down.

Aside from me flipping out, I learned a ton. One of the main things that I really enjoyed about his lecture was "Nowism". I love the fact that he pointed out the end of facebook, twitter, and instagram. It taught me, not to settle for what is in now, but to want what's tomorrow. That thought really stuck in my head all day.

Using Movies as a Guide for Life

One day I watched this movie called "The Other Guys". I knew from that moment on I wanted to become a cop. Everything just made sense, and I submitted my all my applications as forensic science or justice studies major. Some research later, I realized that I actually don't want to be a cop. I don't want to be anything remotely to a cop at all.  The movie I saw, just had great mind sweeping/inaccurate advertising. I learned a couple important lessons that day. Don't base your life on movies with Will Ferrel and the power of advertising.

Advertisements. They're everywhere and they're actually pretty influential.

Open a magazine? Tons of ads fall out. Go to a gas station? See an LCD screen tell you about herpes. It's unavoidable. There are so many advertisements that just play in the background of my life, and I actually wanted to have some ownership of those ads. I wanted to look around, and say "OH THAT'S MY AD! I MADE THAT. LOOK AT ME. LOOK HOW CREATIVE I AM." all that gloating and what not. Most importantly I actually wanted to to be influential to people and change their lives.

So maybe the cop idea wasn't so great, but I had found another career course that would still be influential to society as well as changing the lives of people.
